Mother makes catastrophic injury claim for son
A devoted mother from Stourbridge has launched a catastrophic injury claim for her son.
The mother of the child, who suffered serious birth injuries, is seeking compensation from the Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Trust.
Her son, who was born in November 2007 at Russell Hall Hospital in Dudley, suffered catastrophic brain damage during the labour. The injury was caused when the baby was starved of oxygen for nearly 25 minutes before delivery.
The High Court heard that if midwives who attended to the birth had involved obstetricians earlier, the baby would have been born without injury.
The baby was delivered by a student midwife whose notes record that his condition was poor and floppy.
The baby suffered an acute form of brain injury and was transferred to a neonatal unit. Four months after the birth he was suffering from regular daily seizures.
Now, four years later, the mother has accused the NHS trust of negligence and is currently making a catastrophic injury claim.
