HMP electrician's asbestos claim
The Shropshire Star has reported that a retired electrician is seeking to claim mesothelioma compensation for developing the cancer as a result of exposure to asbestos.
A High Court writ submitted by the 73-year-old's no win, no fee solicitor, details how he is hoping to claim mesothelioma compensation from Her Majesty's Prison Service, alleging that he suffered the fateful exposure during his employment at HMP Holloway in London between 1976 and 2000.
The asbestos claim writ details how, during his employment, the man, from Pontesbury, near Shrewsbury, used to remove asbestos tiles and work in an asbestos-contaminated electrical wire "trolley route".
The claimant was diagnosed with the cancer following the appearance of symptoms in 2008. He has already been subjected to radiotherapy treatments, but is claiming mesothelioma compensation for a number of factors.
His industrial illness solicitor argues that the HM Prison Service neglected its duty to ensure the man's health and safety and, as such, is hoping to secure appropriate compensation.
