Personal injury solicitor helps cancer sufferer win case
A man suffering from cancer has been awarded an undisclosed sum of injury compensation from the international energy company BP.
Justin Detel, 20, of Sugar Creek, Kansas City, contacted a personal injury solicitor after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
His compensation claim stated that the BP refinery in his town was the direct cause of his cancer.
The latest compensation payout comes just months after BP paid $13.3 million to Leonard Ryan, whose wife died from cancer.
Residents in Sugar Creek have complained about the petrol fumes, which have been leaking from the refinery since the 1940s.
The personal injury solicitors at Walters Law firm LLC said that a document released from BP had shown that 56,000 barrels of petrol had leaked into Sugar Creek each year.
In the future, solicitors may be helping a number of other claimants from Sugar Creek make claims for personal injury compensation.
