An Australian man diagnosed with the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma has been awarded $2.75 million (£1 million) after making a in personal injury compensation claim.
Tim Lacone, 58, of Victoria contacted personal injury solicitors after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma and made a claim against his past employer Amaca Pty Ltd, formerly known as James Hardie.
Mr Lacone was exposed to asbestos between 1967 and 1974 when he used asbestos sheeting in building works in Melbourne.
With the help of personal injury solicitors, he made a compensation claim and was awarded $2.75 million in damages.
Mr Lacone was pleased with the level of money he was awarded for his personal injury compensation claim but admits that it hasn't been an easy journey.
He said, "James Hardie is a gutless, cowardly company that ran away from this country like a hit-and-run driver who ran away from maybe your loved one and left them dying a hideous death in the gutter."
