Call centre operator makes injury compensation claim

A call centre operator has made an injury compensation claim against Barclays after he allegedly suffered back injuries as a result of sitting at a small desk.

Gareth Judd, who measures 6ft 7in tall, claims the desk and chair he was provided with at Barclays was inadequate for somebody of his height.

The call centre operative had been employed at the company for five months and in December 2005 was forced to stop working because of his workplace injuries.

He was later diagnosed by doctors as suffering from a prolapsed disc and believes it was because of the furniture at Barclays that he sustained the personal injury.

Mr Judd said, "I put in a request form about getting my desk adjusted, but it never happened. I'm 6ft 7in and was constantly crouched over my desk. It was really uncomfortable."

After taking time off work, Mr Judd was dismissed in June by the employment agency that had secured him the work at the call centre.

Mr Judd consulted a personal injury solicitor and decided to make an injury compensation claim for his back injury.

However, Mr Judd's compensation claim has been criticised after he recently took part in a competition to win a car, which required him to spend five days in a Ford vehicle.

Mr Judd denied that the car stunt had caused his back injury and said he had made a full recovery by the time of the competition.
