Investigation launched into factory worker's accident at work
An investigation has been launched into the death of a factory worker who was killed when a crate carrying car parts fell on top of him.
The work accident occurred at the Melloy Ltd factory on the Treforest Industrial Estate when a 44-year-old worker was crushed by a crate that had slipped from a crane.
The man suffered serious personal injuries at the factory in Pontypridd on the 10th November and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
A spokesperson at Pontypridd fire station said, "The gentleman was working at the factory on Friday night and a crate of car parts fell on him."
The man's body remained at the factory overnight while a pathologist and experts from the Health and Safety Executive carried out tests into the cause of the fatal accident.
Rhydyfelin council Maureen Webber commented on the factory accident and said, "It's a tragedy and obviously the Health and Safety Executive are involved because it is an accident at work.
"I'm saddened to hear that anybody has lost their life in that way, especially if he is local.
"If he has got family, then obviously everybody's sympathies are with them."
The Health and Safety Executive and South Wales Police are now carrying out an investigation into the accident at work.
