Injury compensation news
Personal injury solicitors help railway worker claim
A former railway worker who was exposed to asbestos has been awarded a substantial sum in work injury compensation.
Geoffrey Stead, 65, of Filey, Yorkshire, decided to contact personal injury solicitors after being diagnosed with the asbestos-related disease pleural thickening.
He was exposed to asbestos at the age of 16 whilst working as an apprentice plumber for British Rail between 1956 and 1957.
Mr Stead, grandfather of eight, said, "When I decided to sue for compensation it was never about the money, it was about getting someone to say they were responsible for making me work in conditions that would damage my health in the future.
"It's not about the money. It is knowing that if the worst does happen I can provide for my family after my death."
Personal injury solicitor Helen Thompson said, "We are pleased to have won injury compensation for Mr Stead who was exposed to asbestos through the negligence of employers.
"Unfortunately he is one of many people who have been exposed to asbestos in the past by British Rail to the detriment of their health in the future."
