Man awarded compensation for serious personal injury
A man who suffered serious personal injuries after being beaten with a baton has been awarded £750 in injury compensation.
Adam Burgess was attacked on 10th October by 18-year-old Aaron Harvey, who accused him of flirting with his girlfriend at the Cross-in-Hand pub near Heathfield.
As Mr Harvey left the pub he saw a baton on the floor, which he then used to assault Mr Burgess.
Mr Burgess escaped suffering a possible head injury in the attack but was treated in hospital for severe bruising and neck and shoulder pain.
At Hove Crown Court, Roger Booth, defending, said, "Harvey believed Adam Burgess had been pestering his girlfriend and making eyes at her for some weeks to wind him up.
"This is a classic case of someone knowing another person can be easily wound up and egging him on."
Mr Harvey was given an eight-month sentence, suspended for two years, and he was ordered to pay Mr Burgess £750 in compensation for the serious personal injury he sustained.
