Relatively minor personal injury for lightning man
An article in the Daily Mail this week has featured one man's incredible recovery from serious personal injury caused by a lightning strike.
The Birmingham man unwisely chose to shelter under a tree during a thunderstorm, and was struck. The experience perforated his eardrums, leaving him with tinnitus, and caused him to burst into flame.
A Met Office spokesperson said, "Being struck by lightning does not necessarily result in death. It all depends on the path of the bolt as it goes to ground. If it misses the heart your chances significantly improve, though burning can be severe."
As an act of God, the lightning strike is very unlikely to lead to compensation claims being made as a result of the personal injury suffered.
