Work accident news

Investigation launched after teenager killed in accident at work

A teenager who was killed in an accident at work in Aberdeen has been named as Michael Scott.

The 18-year-old, from Oldmeldrum, suffered serious personal injuries whilst working at the plumbing firm APH in York Place.

A first-aider from a neighbouring company tried to help Mr Scott after he became crushed by wooden materials and other members of staff phoned for the emergency services.

An ambulance crew arrived at the scene of the industrial accident and rushed Mr Scott to hospital but he later died from his workplace injuries.

Mr Scott's parents, Fiona and Pete, said they were devastated by the news of their son's accident at work.

In a statement they said, "Michael was a very special person. He loved people and they loved him. He was everything a parent could want from a son. His younger sister, Laura, 15, is beside herself with grief."

A joint investigation into the accident at work has been launched by Grampian Police and the Health and Safety Executive.
