Industrial deafness claim successful for welder
A welder who suffered industrial deafness after a career spent in various noisy working environments has won noise induced hearing loss compensation from three separate companies after they all admitted liability for his hearing damage.
Between 1978 and 2007, the worker was employed in various noise filled environments in the steal industry and at engineering works; his hearing loss was diagnosed during a medical which took place in 2007.
With the help of his union, the GMB, he made contact with a personal injury solicitor and a settlement was agreed with all three employers before the case had to go to court.
A GMB spokesperson said, "Loss of hearing affects many of our members who have been negligently exposed to excessive levels of noise in the workplace. Often their hearing problems can go unnoticed for a long time."
The worker received £12,750 in damages for his industrial deafness injury.
