Ipswich Hospital admits to medical negligence
Parents of a nine-year-old girl who suffers from cerebral palsy have been told that
Ipswich Hospital has admitted medical negligence for their daughter's condition.
Holly Goodwyn was born in 1997 and despite signs of foetal distress, medical
staff at the hospital failed to deliver her urgently.
Ipswich Hospital has concluded hat clinical negligence was a direct cause of
Holly's cerebral palsy, which has left her seriously disabled and in need of an
electronic aid for communication.
Holly's mother Lynne, said, "While we were reluctant to take legal action in this
matter, we felt that the extent of the help Holly requires would not be available
otherwise.
"We also hoped that lessons would be learned from Holly's birth and that the
hospital would look at its practices so that the same errors would not be allowed
to happen again."
Medical negligence solicitor, Sarah Coles, said, "Holly's parents live with the
nightmare of her birth on a daily basis. The future they had hoped for her will never
be realised. They have gladly made many sacrifices to give Holly as normal a life
as possible, but have come to realise that without help this was never going to be
enough."
Spokesperson for Ipswich Hospital, Jan Rowsell, said the hospital accepted medical negligence for Holly's birth accident in 1997, which led to her present
condition.
