Holidaymaker seeks £300k after fall at caravan park

A holidaymaker is to make a claim for personal injury compensation after suffering severe injuries at a caravan park in Cornwall.

A High Court writ disclosed that the woman and her family had booked four chalets at the holiday park with the understanding that there would be suitable wheelchair access. However, on arrival at the site the family discovered that the chalet could only be accessed by five steps and no other suitable accommodation was available.

To help resolve the problem the owner of the holiday park positioned a breeze block on the ground next to the first step to make it easier to climb.

The woman, who is a wheelchair user but could manage short distances with the aid of a crutch, had just returned from a day out and had been attempting to climb the stairs when her crutch slipped in the rain and she fell to the ground.

The fall caused the woman to suffer spinal injuries which have now left her fully reliant on a wheelchair and the assistance of others.

The woman is seeking £300,000 in personal injury compensation from the company which owns the holiday park.
