Couple receive personal injury compensation for distress
A couple from Bolton in Greater Manchester who were awarded holiday accident compensation after being involved in a coach accident while travelling in Germany have been awarded a further £750 in personal injury compensation by their insurer for the distress they endured in having payment of their medical expenses delayed.
Although not strictly holiday accident compensation, the payment has been gladly been received by the couple, who were faced with the threat of court action after their insurer neglected to speedily pay their medical bills. The 61-year-old male of the couple commented, "We were really pleased. It finally brings all this to an end. I hope it will encourage the company to treat their clients better."
Although he sustained minor injuries in the holiday accident, those his 58-year-old wife sustained were much more serious, and included punctured lungs, a fractured spine and broken ribs, for which she needed 17 days hospitalisation.
The coach accident happened in 2004 when it plunged 100 ft down an embankment in the Alps, killing six and leaving 49 injured.
