Pensioner walks away from helicopter crash
An experienced pilot had a lucky escape after suffering a passenger accident when his helicopter hit power cables o Dartmoor.
The 70-year-old managed to escape the crash with only slight injuries, despite his helicopter being completely obliterated in the accident.
Speaking about the accident, the pilot said, "I was like a rag doll inside. I was very lucky to come out of it alive. I tried to pull up but it all happened so fast."
Witnesses to the crash who were due to fly in the helicopter, described how the helicopter came in low and hit power cables which sent sparks off it "like fireworks going off."
No one else was hurt in the crash and the pilot managed to escape with only minor personal injuries including a couple of broken ribs and some slight head wounds.
Around 150 homes lost power after the passenger accident as power cables had to be repaired and the electricity restored.
