Paramedics suffer crash whilst on emergency call
Paramedics manning an ambulance on an emergency call in Birmingham recently were in collision with a concrete pillar while they travelled under a motorway bridge, the BBC reports. The male occupant suffered head injury and damage to his neck, while the female paramedic received treatment for a shoulder injury and shock.
The ambulance was on its way to attend a man trapped under a train in Sutton Coldfield, but after the crash was itself attended by a further two ambulances. The occupants were then taken to Sandwell General Hospital.
Another ambulance was sent to the station to help treat the train accident victim; however, he died later as a result of his injuries.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service told reporters that an investigation had been started into the circumstances of the ambulance crash.
It was not reported whether there were any other vehicles involved in the road traffic accident or whether the paramedics will be making compensation claims for the shoulder, neck and head injury that they suffered.
