Compensation possible as nine-vehicle accident closes motorway

Four lorries, a coach and four cars were involved in a motorway accident in Essex, but only four people suffered personal injury sufficiently serious to warrant hospital treatment.

The M11 was closed in both directions between junctions eight and nine, near Stansted Airport, while emergency workers freed passengers trapped in the bus. The victims were believed to have suffered broken legs and were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, for treatment.

A man in one of the cars and a woman in one of the others were also injured. They were said to have neck and back injuries.

One of the lorry drivers was treated at the scene of the road accident for minor injuries.

The coach, which had 27 passengers on board, had been travelling from Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, to a hotel in Nantwich, Cheshire. Those who were not injured were picked up by a replacement coach to continue the journey for their planned short break holiday.

Commercial vehicle accident investigators were carrying out tests with police in order to determine the cause of the multi-vehicle collision, and witnesses are being sought.

Once any liability has been established, the crash victims may wish to seek compensation for their pain and any loss of earnings.
