Ex-compensation claim boss in tax swoop
The no win no fee boss who sacked more than 2,500 of his staff by text message following the collapse of his personal injury compensation claim business empire has finally been tracked down by bailiffs.
42-year-old Mark Langford, founder of The Accident Group, was served writs demanding £4.1 million as he was boarding his luxury yacht on the southern coast of Spain.
His personal injury compensation claim company, which used the slogan, "Where there's a blame, there's a claim", collapsed in May 2003 with debts of more than £100 million.
Langford, dubbed the 'Compensation King' by the media, made a reported £75 million fortune from The Accident Group but Inland Revenue bailiffs made this week's swoop as the result of an enormous unpaid tax bill.
His firm had targeted those injured in non-fault accidents and scoured shopping centres, housing estates hospital waiting rooms in search of people who could be entitled to make accident claims.
Following the crash of his personal injury compensation claim firm and the subsequent writ, Mark Langford has now been ordered to attend a bankruptcy hearing in Manchester on March 6th.
