Injury claims could be reduced following road improvements

Plans to redevelop roads in Melton, Leicestershire, will begin in the New Year to ease congestion in the area.

Injury claims could be reduced in the future with fewer motorists suffering personal injuries in road accidents, as County Hall spends £1million on upgrading Norman Way.

Traffic in the area has become extremely congested over the years and the risk of car accidents, and subsequent car accident compensation claims, has increased.

The improvements are expected to be completed by 2008 and will allow motorists to have more space to drive on the roads.

Stefan Kuziara, County Hall's major transport projects manager, said, "We will be working on Norman Way's key junctions. The project won't provide the long-term solution but the intention is to give breathing space for the town while we develop a bypass for Melton.

"We've secured over £200,000 from developer contributions for the junction improvements, which will cost over £1million."

The improvements should limit the risk of possible motor accidents on Norman Way, with fewer motorists making injury claims for such things as whiplash.

Chairman of Melton Highways Group, Peter Roffey, said, "I think the scheme is going to have an enormous benefit in moving traffic through the town."
