Road accident claim made for father's motorcycle accident

The family of a man who was killed when his bike rode over a diesel spillage have made a road accident compensation claim for his death.

Richard Cooper, known as Chris, was involved in a motorcycle accident as he travelled to see a motorbike rally in Skegness in March this year.

He was riding his Yamaha Royal Star 1300 along the B6403 in Lincolnshire when he suddenly rode over a pool of diesel and collided with a white van.

Mr Cooper was rushed to Grantham and District Hospital but later died from serious personal injuries he sustained in the road traffic accident.

Following the accident, his family have consulted personal injury solicitors and made a road accident compensation claim for his fatal crash.

Their solicitor, Andrew Campbell, said, "This is a tragic example of the dangers posed by fuel on our roads.

"There will be a very large dependency claim. Mr Copper's wife is disabled and he did everything for her."

According to Mr Campbell, the road accident compensation claim is the first to be lodged with the Motor Insurers' Bureau for a fatal accident caused by a diesel spill.

He added, "Diesel spills are largely preventable.

"The majority are caused by negligent drivers, particularly those operating larger commercial vehicles, who overfill their tanks or don't secure their fuel caps, causing it to slosh out on to the road."
