Couple awarded £3.9m compensation
Personal injury solicitors have helped a couple win nearly £4 million in compensation more than 30 years after their young baby suffered brain damage in hospital.
Medical negligence left Salvatore di Giorgi with a brain injury shortly after his birth in April 1971 and his family have looked after him ever since with no additional financial help.
His parents, Leo and Maria, of Bedfordshire, were unaware they were in a position to make a personal injury compensation claim for the birth injury but are now celebrating an award of £3.9 million ordered by the High Court.
The accident claim was made against Luton and Dunstable NHS Trust after Salvatore received inadequate care whilst in a paediatric ward. Becoming severely dehydrated and with his life in danger, he was transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital where doctors managed to save him but were unable to prevent brain damage.
Following the successful conclusion of the case, the di Giorgis thanked their personal injury solicitors and Mr Justice Eady, presiding over the compensation claim hearing, voiced his "very best wishes to the family for the future".
