Relatives of nursing home residents make compensation claims

The families of fourteen OAPs who died in a nursing home fire have made compensation claims against the home's owners.

Residents living in the Rosepark nursing home, Lanarkshire, died when the building set ablaze in January 2004 and following an investigation, the home's owners were charged with breaching health and safety regulations.

Family members decided to contact personal injury solicitors and make compensation claims against the home for the personal injuries their relatives sustained in the fatal accident.

Compensation solicitor, Cameron Fyfe, said, "Claims require to be made within a three-year time limit in Scotland.

"We will await the outcome of the criminal trial which is expected within a few months.

"If a conviction is secured in the trial, we expect it to be an open and shut case."

Joseph Milne, 57, lost his mother Nellie, 82, in the fire and is one of many people perusing a compensation claim against the home's owners.

He said, "When this tragedy happened, the whole country talked about how awful it was but once the TV cameras went away and politicians had made their promises, families who lost loved ones were left in a terrible limbo."

The compensation claims for personal injury continue.
