Dutch footballer in Madrid smash
Dutch footballer Royston Drenthe was lucky to escape without personal injury after being involved in a collision with a police car in Madrid's city centre.
The 20-year-old left winger, who recently completed a high profile move from Feyenoord to Real Madrid, is believed to have been trying to complete a u-turn in his Audi Q7 when the road traffic accident occurred in the early hours of the morning last week.
Although Drenthe was unhurt in the car crash, an officer in the police car is believed to have suffered a whiplash injury and later required hospital treatment.
Following the road traffic accident, £10 million-rated Drenthe was breathalysed but was not arrested. Three other people, including the footballer's girlfriend, were travelling in the Audi at the time of the car accident but were also fortunate to walk away without personal injury.
It is not known if further action is to be taken as a result of the vehicle accident or if the injured policeman is planning to make a whiplash claim for personal injury compensation claim.
