Student makes compensation claim following drunk crash
A student from Oxfordshire is making a personal injury compensation claim for more than a million pounds after a drunken trip in the boot of a car ended in tragedy.
The youngster, who was 21 at the time of the October 2005 car accident, was crouching under the parcel shelf of a friend's Ford Fiesta when the vehicle spun out of control on the Coventry Ringway.
The student suffered serious personal injuries in the car crash including nerve damage, broken bones and head injuries. He underwent extensive surgery but is still unable to use his hands and doctors are not confident he will ever be able to again.
There were six people in the Fiesta at the time of car accident and all of them, including the driver, had been drinking heavily at a nightclub on the night of the smash.
The driver was subsequently convicted of dangerous driving under the influence of alcohol for his part in the crash and it is he who is now the subject of the injured man's personal injury compensation claim.
His accident claim is based on the fact that, prior to climbing into the boot, the student asked the driver if he was in a fit state to drive and received a positive response.
The personal injury compensation claim is set to begin in the High Court on October 15th 2007.
