Dentist's patient could make medical negligence claim

A Polish dentist has admitted to medical negligence after she punctured a patient's nose with a needle.

Joanna Chyzy, 34, of Collin, Dumfries, admitted to causing the patient's personal injury but denied that she failed to obtain consent and that she failed to recognise the patient was in distress.

At a misconduct hearing she told members of the General District Council that she made an incorrect judgment during the treatment in April 2005.

She said, "I pulled up her lip, I accept I was off target with the tip of the syringe.

"She was making noises but I can't say that she was waving her hands.

"She told me her throat was numb, she was going into panic. I didn't administer anaesthetic without permission."

The council also heard that Ms Chyzy inflicted personal injuries to an elderly woman during treatment after she drilled into the wrong part of her tooth and caused severe bleeding.

Ms Chyzy's latest patient to suffer clinical negligence may well consider contacting personal injury solicitors to make an accident claim.

The medical negligence hearing continues.
