Dentist's errors lead to payout

A woman from Manchester has secured a payout of injury compensation for the dental negligence which left her in serious pain and in need of extensive repair work.

The 75-year-old claimant, a grandmother of five children, had hoped to have cosmetic treatment on a crooked tooth as well as work on crowns, whitening and veneers.

However, the botched dental work left her with blistered lips, inflamed gums and nerve damage.

In fact, the damage caused by the dental negligence was so bad that she then had to pay £30,000 in order for another dentist to perform repair work. She commented, "I had to have a full restoration of my teeth, costing over £30,000 and taking more than a year to complete."

Left with little choice, the 75-year-old decided to pursue litigation. Her no win, no fee lawyer commented, "She had placed her trust in [the dentist] and that trust was obviously misplaced. Not only did he give her negligent treatment, he has refused to address the claim.

"Even his own defence organisation was unable to get instructions from him."

In total, the woman received £50,000 compensation for her dental negligence claim. However, due to the elusiveness of the defendant, the case took three years to resolve.
