Delays to improvement plans for accident claims
Work to speed up and streamline the processing of road traffic accident compensation claims is being hit by delays and problems.
The latest issue to have slowed up the implementation of the personal injury reforms is the changing of a deadline by the government.
Originally, improvements in the handling of vehicle accident claims were scheduled to start being implemented in October this year.
However, in a bizarre development, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) issued a letter to all stakeholders announcing a deadline alteration to April next year - and then subsequently stated the letter about the extended deadline had been sent by mistake.
Stakeholders were reportedly disappointed and dismayed by the confusion over when improvements will be made, according to comments made to the Insurance Age business magazine.
A spokesman for the MoJ said the current situation was that the April 2010 deadline to implement vehicle accident claim reforms would now stand.
