Man disabled in conveyor belt work-related accident

A man, who has been left disabled after his head, shoulders and chest were crushed by two conveyor belts at a china clay processing plant, may make a compensation claim for his work-related injury.

The accident occurred at 4.30am on August 14, 2008, when the victim, who was loading bags of china clay onto a conveyor belt, was pulled into a six-inch wide gap between the belts which were designed to flatten bags of clay.

Truro Crown Court was told that the 47-year-old industrial injury casualty had been unable to work for more than a year and was still 30% disabled.

The company operating the plant at Par, near St Austell, Cornwall, pleaded guilty to health and safety offences and was fined £30,000. It was also ordered to pay court costs of £45,124.

Now that liability for the workplace accident has been determined, the personal injury victim may wish to consult a no win no fee solicitor with a view to seeking a damages settlement for his suffering.
