Council pays over £244,000 in compensation claims
New figures have revealed that Milton Keynes Council has paid out more than quarter of a million pounds in compensation claims.
The recent findings were obtained through the Freedom of Information Act and show just how much of taxpayer's money the council has spent on personal injury claims in the past two years.
In total, the council has paid £244,887.67 to third parties and recently paid a four-figure sum in injury compensation to woman who suffered a personal injury when she tripped on a broken paving slab.
A spokesperson for Milton Keynes Council said, "Only a small proportion of the compensation claims we receive are actually successful and we do receive a lot of spurious ones.
"Where we think there is no case, we will contest a claim very vigorously, as the cost of the claim will almost certainly hit the council taxpayer."
