Personal injury news

Council worker wins workplace accident suit

A Wokingham Borough Council employee has won personal injury compensation after the latest in a series of workplace accidents, it has been reported.

The worker was paid £4,600 after slipping over on the job, one of 29 such accidents involving council staff in the past three years.

Of the 29 who suffered a slip, trip or fall, three required hospitalisation.

Four of the work injury cases took more than three days to recover, and had to be reported under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations Act (RIDDOR).

Most of the injuries involved snow, ice, wet floors, carpet trips, and uneven floors.

In spite of these work accidents, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said it would take no enforcement action against Wokingham Council for breaching health and safety legislation.

Its 2010-2011 annual report found that safety training is now more widely available to Council employees, and claimed a new IT system would make staff aware of the potential for workplace accidents.
