Olympic Park clocks up safety record
A record number of hours have been clocked up without construction accidents by workers on the London 2012 project building the Olympic Park.
Since the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) began development of the site in summer 2007, a total of seven million working hours have passed without a reportable accident at work.
The 80,000-capacity stadium is being built at Stratford in East London. About 3,300 people are part of the large-scale construction work.
As well as the stadium, work has also commenced on the Olympic Village, Aquatics Centre and site-wide infrastructure and utilities.
Lord McKenzie, head of health and safety at the ODA, said, "There can be no compromise. The safety and well-being of workers on the Olympic Park site will always be the number one priority for everyone on this project."
In his joint role at the ODA and also Department for Work and Pensions Minister, Lord McKenzie congratulated the ODA for achieving the construction accident safety record - with no work injury compensation claims reported.
