Man awarded compensation after horrific car accident

A West Sussex man who suffered severe brain injuries in a car accident has made a successful personal injury compensation claim.

The 22-year-old was travelling as a passenger in a friend's MGZR Rover when the car lost control and ended up overturned in a ditch. The driver survived the car crash without serious personal injuries but the youngster from Haywards Heath was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

So severe were his injuries that he was put on a life support machine but it was turned off when he stopped breathing. Miraculously, however, he began breathing again and doctors resumed their fight to save him.

He subsequently spent five months in hospital and a further three months at specialist brain damage centres throughout the UK as he learnt how to walk and talk again.

The man, who was studying a three-year engineering course at Crawley College at the time of the accident, will never be able to work and will require nursing care for the rest of his life.

Making a car accident claim at the Royal Courts of Justice, the 22-year-old was awarded personal injury compensation of just over £5,000,000.

His mother thanked the personal injury solicitors that helped her son pursue his brain injury compensation claim but told reporters, "It's good to know he's financially secure for the rest of his life. But if he had the choice between money or going back to how he was, he would go back any day. Money can't buy everything."
