Walton compensation claim after 14-year-old injured
A 14-year-old cyclist's parents could be entitled to make a compensation claim on his behalf after their son sustained severe personal injury in a collision with a car in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.
Residents of the town had complained at police meetings beforehand about the speeds at which cars travelled down the road in which the incident occurred, but they were told that speed cameras could not be put in place until there had been three fatalities reported.
One resident at the scene saw the events take place and said, "I think he has head injuries, it looked quite bad. Two or three medical people were pumping his chest and giving him CPR."
An air ambulance was called to the scene, air-lifting the boy to the Royal London Hospital. Doctors at the hospital reported the young cyclist as having sustained severe head injuries. He remained in a serious condition.
The road had to be closed while collision investigators examined the scene.
If police investigations find that the driver of the vehicle involved is liable for the incident and the 14-year-old's severe injuries, the boy's parents would be entitled to make a compensation claim for their son's pain and suffering and any lasting effects which his injuries will have on his future prospects in life.
