Compensation claim possible for cyclist

A female cyclist might not be entitled to make a compensation claim after being taken to hospital with personal injuries with her two young passengers, despite crashing with a car in Peterborough.

The cyclist and the two boys, believed to be her sons, were all taken to Peterborough City Hospital following the bicycle collision which occurred around midday in the city centre.

The children, thought to be aged five and seven, were reported to be breathing and conscious when they arrived at the hospital.

Both the young boys and the woman were admitted to the hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

If the casualty chooses to make a personal injury claim however, it may not be successful, since a spokesman for the Cambridgeshire Police stated that although one of the boys was riding in the seat, the other was riding on top of the handlebars. The bike was also heavily laden with shopping bags.

The cyclist will only be able to make a compensation claim if the driver of the car involved is found to be largely or wholly responsible for the accident.
