Company pays $60,000 for accident at work claim
An Australian girl has been left with serious injuries after her father took her to work.
Witnesses of the accident at work, claim the girl would often accompany her father, who worked as a cleaner for SP Exports.
The five-year-old suffered serious personal injuries when her clothing became caught in a rotating bolt connected to a conveyor belt.
An engineer's report heard at Bundaberg Industrial Court revealed that the work accident could have been prevented if a guard on the machine had been fitted accurately.
SP Exports allegedly knew the girl was brought to work by her parents and pleaded guilty to breaches of the Workplace Health and Safety Act.
For the accident at work claim brought against SP Exports, the magistrate fined the company $60,000 and ordered then to pay $13,000 costs.
