Cockroach found in loaf of bread
A Malaysian man is considering making a product liability claim for personal injury compensation after finding a dead cockroach in a loaf of bread.
The construction worker says his wife fell ill shortly after eating several slices of the bread which he bought from a nearby grocery store. As well as discovering the dead insect, the couple also found several spots of mould on the loaf, despite the fact that it had not reached its expiry date.
The 31-year-old who found the bug spoke to journalists and said, "I didn't notice anything wrong with the bread until I got to the last few slices. I found a dead cockroach sandwiched between them."
He told of the effect this had on his wife, saying, "She was vomiting and had diarrhoea. The doctor said it might have been caused by the contaminated bread."
The Malaysian has now reported the matter to the police and has also sent the bread off to be tested by the local health authority. His decision whether or not to make a product liability claim for personal injury compensation will depend upon the forthcoming test results.
