Coach crash leaves 14 injured in the Highlands

A coach accident has led to multiple passenger injuries on the A9 in the Highlands after a private hire coach carrying elderly people from Dornoch in the Highlands to Cheshire overturned.

Fourteen people were injured in the coach crash which happened at about 9am. The driver was seriously hurt in the crash but none of the injuries suffered by the passengers are thought to be life threatening.

Thirty-three passengers were on board the coach at the time of the accident – 17 women and 16 women.

Ambulances were sent to the scene of the accident but the air ambulance was grounded due to concerns over Icelandic volcanic ash in the air.

The road was closed for several hours after the crash but has since been reopened.

The circumstances surrounding the crash have not yet been reported.

A spokesperson from the coach company said that those involved in the coach accident were being transported home at the earliest opportunity.
