Footballer's wife dies following corrective procedure

A footballer's wife is understood to have died from an infection after undergoing a procedure that has been alleged to be the result of clinical negligence.

The woman went into a private Preston hospital, where she received what the Telegraph has referred to as a "botched" liposuction procedure, in which she suffered punctures to her bowel and colon and contracted septicaemia.

Despite securing a six-figure payment in regard of a medical negligence claim as a result of this operation, the woman suffered ongoing health problems and needed corrective surgery. Following a 16-hour procedure in May, she contracted an infection from which she did not recover.

Representatives of the sides that the footballer had played for offered condolences to him and his four children. The surgeon who faced the clinical negligence case had already volunteered for removal from the register of the General Medical Council.
