Cyclists told to be vigilant
Cyclists in the United Kingdom have been advised to take extra care while out cycling on the nation's roads. This comes after the National Accident Helpline announced that they have received a marked increase in the number of compensation claim enquiries being made cyclists who have suffered personal injury in road accidents.
They also advised cyclists that taking training courses on road safety rules and responsibilities can be useful tool in protecting their personal safety and can help them avoid ever needing to make road accident compensation claims.
John Campbell, legal director with the group, commented, "Since 2004, we have seen an 85% increase in the number of enquiries from cyclists who've been injured while out riding on UK roads and streets."With the increasing popularity of cycling amongst all age groups, both as a method of commuting and for recreation, it seems likely we may see an even greater increase in accident enquiries in 2008."Just like car drivers, cyclists are entitled fair access to our roads and are also entitled to make claims for compensation if they have been hurt in an accident that was someone else's fault."We do everything we can to help cyclists that call us for advice after an accident, but many of the serious accidents might have been avoided if drivers took more care and cyclists followed recommended safety practices."
