No win, no fee claim news

Councillor defends right to claim

A local councillor from a village in North Yorkshire has instructed compensation solicitors to commence a no-win, no-fee claim for the injuries she sustained after slipping on ice outside a village hall.

The 74-year-old conservative councillor suffered injuries so severe that she is still unable to walk independently, even a full two years since the incident.

While acknowledging that he'd received notice of no win, no fee claim, a village hall organiser did not offer any indication as to whether he'd seek to defend the compensation action.

The claimant echoed the feeling of many in her situation when she sought to distance herself from the media stereotype of the money hungry litigator. "Solicitors are dealing with a personal injury claim on my behalf, but I don't want people thinking I'm money-grabbing or a horrible person," she commented.

"I know the thought of someone claiming compensation really winds people up and a lot of folk are really greedy these days, but this accident has really interfered with the quality of my life.

She then outlined the extent of her injuries, saying, "I broke my right leg in loads of places and my leg's been pinned, but I may have to have more treatment. The bone was sticking out about two inches."

She went on to explain that she is only proceeding with the no win, no fee claim because of how difficult her life has been made by her accident injuries.
