Coroner records road accident verdict

A coroner has recorded a verdict in the case of an 83-year-old man who drove into a church, suffering fatal injuries, shortly after being involved in a car crash with another vehicle.

The coroner heard how the pensioner collided with an Audi A3, suffering no discernible car crash injuries, and then exchanged details with the driver. Shortly afterwards however, the pensioner then returned to the wheel of his Suzuki, only to accidentally press the accelerator, forcing him to career into a church. In this case he suffered multiple and, eventually, fatal injuries in the car crash.

The coroner, sitting at Eastbourne, recorded a verdict of death in a road accident. No other person was thought to have suffered injury in the incident, meaning it is unlikely that any accident compensation will be sought.
