Brain damaged man wins car accident compensation payout

A 40-year-old accounts clerk from Highgate who suffered every road user's worst nightmare after an uninsured teenage driver crashed head on into his car, leaving him with severe brain damage, has succeeded in his bid for car accident compensation. The total damages payout is understood to eventually be worth £1.5million.

The 40-year-old man was a passenger in a Morris Minor travelling through Hanger Lane, Ealing, Greater London, when the 17-year-old uninsured driver of a Vauxhall Cavalier hit him head on. The impact of the car crash left him in a coma and caused permanent brain damage to his frontal lobe.

As the teenage driver was uninsured, it was left to the Motor Insurers Bureau, an industry body that acts in cases involving uninsured drivers, to accept liability. The personal injury compensation package involves a £750,000 lump sum payout followed by yearly payouts of £26,000 for the duration of the claimant's life.

Following the ruling, the claimant declined to comment on how he felt about the size of his car accident compensation payout.
