Claimants warned of doorstep settlements
Those who are looking to make a car accident claim are being warned about being approached by insurance companies offering them compensation for their personal injury out of court.
There has been a rise in car insurance company representatives approaching those injured in an accident and offering them cheques for personal injury compensation before the injured party has even made an accident claim.
In exchange for a compensation payout, the insurer will ask you to sign a form stating that the offer is accepted in full and that no further payments will be claimed for.
Insurance companies have even been known to turn up at crash sites before crash victims have discovered the true extent of their injuries or the full damage to their vehicles.
The Motor Accident Solicitors Society and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers have asked members to alert them to insurers offering early settlement so that they can use the evidence to force financial services regulators to ban or regulate the practice.
For the time being, injured parties are therefore recommended to seek legal advice before settling any car accident claims to ensure they receive a sufficient amount for their injuries.
