Head injury sufferers help wildlife with homes

Acquired brain injury victims have been brought on board to help a Kent public park attract more wildlife by building bird boxes and bat boxes to RSPB standards.

Local users of Headway, a charity set up to support people who have received personal injury that affects the brain, realised that many members had trade experience that would allow them to help the wildlife site, and help them to rediscover skills hampered or lost since their accident.

Rediscovery of skills thought lost and renewed contact with the local community are valued by the charity as much as the compensation claims that may be made.

Kent wood merchants provided the materials to make the birdhouses, which have been partly donated to the sanctuary and partly sold to raise money for the brain injury charity. The users now intend to make houses for geese and ducks at Dunorlan Park.
