Mother makes personal injury claim on son's behalf
A nine-year-old boy who was starved of oxygen at birth has been awarded more than £4 million in compensation for his personal injury claim.
Khazar Iqbal suffered severe brain damage during his birth at Whipps Cross Hospital in March 1997 and will need 24-hour care for the rest of his life.
After he sustained the birth injury, his mother, Irene, contacted a personal injury solicitor and made a compensation claim on his behalf to pay for his long-term care.
She claims that staff at the hospital acted negligently when signs of foetal distress should have prompted them to perform an emergency caesarean.
Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust admitted liability for the clinical negligence and awarded Khazar a total of £4,619,912 for his personal injury claim.
