Girl awarded £7 million from NHS

A young girl left disabled after a birth injury has been awarded £7 million after doctors failed to remove the umbilical cord, which was strangling her, quickly enough when she was born.

Due to the medical negligence, the girl was starved of oxygen and suffered brain damage resulting in her developing cerebral palsy.

This has left her with limited use of her arms and legs and she is only able to speak a few words.

Her mother has spent the last seven years fighting the NHS for compensation since her daughter's birth at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

The award from the NHS Litigation Authority is one of the biggest NHS compensation pay-outs ever made.

Commenting on the case, the family's personal injury lawyer said, "We are very pleased with the result of this particular case."
