Accident at work leaves flight attendant grounded

A British Airways flight attendant is to sue the airline over an accident at work she claims had ‘serious neurological consequences'.

The woman is seeking work accident compensation after being hit in the head by a water canister in the rear galley of the BA aircraft she was crewing at the time.

According to her compensation claim, the attendant suffered the injury whilst fetching drinks for passengers on a delayed flight out of Heathrow airport.

She was reaching into an overhead locker for water when a container of ice spilled out onto the floor. She bent down to retrieve the ice, and at that moment the canister of water fell on top of her.

The accident claim states, "She sustained a blow to her head resulting in pain in the back of her head, swelling and left her feeling dazed and groggy.

"Unfortunately the claimant suffered serious neurological consequences."

The attendant is suing for damages of between £100,000 and £300,000 for her accident in the workplace, which took place in July 2008.

Her accident claim solicitors allege that the ‘double stowing' of ice and water in the same locker went against procedure in the confined space of the aircraft galley, and that the door latch which should have secured the drinks canisters was faulty.

BA has acknowledged the accident at work and their employee's compensation claim, stating, "It is being assessed by our solicitors."
