Personal injury news
Aussie accident at work stats revealed
If you want to avoid an accident at work, it's probably best to steer clear of Australia - especially if you're a fella.
Our friends Down Under might have kangaroos, beaches and beautiful weather but it seems they also have an enormously high work accident rate.
In fact, a whopping 700,000 of the 10.8 million Aussies who worked during the last 12 months found themselves suffering from some type of work-induced accident or illness. Strains and sprains seemed to be the most common, followed closely by cuts and muscle complaints.
The figures, which were released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, revealed that Australian men were the most prone to personal injury in the workplace and those aged between 20 and 24 had the highest accident rate at 9.8%.
Six in ten of those suffering from personal injuries as the result of an accident at work took time off work and 28% spent five days or more in their sick bed trying to recover.
Mining, construction, manufacturing, agriculture, fishing and forestry were discovered to be the most risky industries and if you're thinking of seeking employment in Queensland or the Australian Capital Territory then beware because they're by far the most dangerous states.
Statistics revealing the number of personal injury compensation claims resulting from these accidents at work have not yet been released.
