Farm worker injures arm trapped in baling machine

A Scottish farm labourer needed firefighters to free his arm from a piece of machinery after he became trapped in an accident at work.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive has been initiated after the man's upper limb became trapped in a baler this week in the Fife region.

The work injury was described as "serious" in the community newspaper The Courier, although the worker's life was not in danger.

Rescuers needed to remove one of the baling machine's rollers to release the arm. He was taken to a hospital in Dundee by ambulance, although he travelled there by road not helicopter despite initial requests.

After the accident at work, the owner of the farm at Auchtermuchty said his priority was employee welfare.
