Compensation claim bid after injured man loses arm
A council employee has made a work accident compensation claim for millions of pounds after losing an arm when it was crushed in industrial machinery.
The Scottish worker suffered horrendous injuries in the accident at work that happened at a waste treatment plant run by Aberdeenshire Council.
Press coverage stated that as well as losing his arm, part of the man's collarbone and shoulder were also seriously injured when the left upper limb was sandwiched between a conveyor belt and a roller.
Aberdeenshire Council was convicted of breaching health and safety laws for not having a guard in place on the machinery and fined £12,000.
Invited to comment, the council said the matter was now in the hands of insurers.
At court it was reported that the worker had been trying to clear a blockage from the machinery. A training failure or lack of training was said to have also contributed to the accident at work.
The worker is reportedly seeking £2 million in his work accident compensation claim.
